KY Tumble brings cheer and gymnastics to Owen County
OWENTON, Ky. — (Jan. 17, 2025) Families in Owen County now have a local option for tumbling and cheer training with the opening of KY Tumble, LLC. The new facility, located at 318 North Main St., Suite 4, offers classes for children ages 3 and up, emphasizing skill-building, confidence and personal growth.
For owner Laura Porter, opening KY Tumble fulfills a long-held dream.
“I can remember when I was in high school having to travel to Lawrenceburg or Northern Kentucky for gymnastics,” Porter said. “I have always had a passion for gymnastics and cheer and wanted to bring it to my hometown.”
Tumbling, a cornerstone of cheerleading routines, emphasizes floor-based acrobatics such as flips, twists, and rolls, setting it apart from traditional gymnastics, which often involves equipment like beams and bars. A 2007 graduate of Owen County High School, Porter spent her youth mastering these skills. Her dedication not only shaped her own abilities but also led to her founding the recreational gymnastics and cheer program for Owen County Parks and Recreation. Additionally, she brought her expertise to her alma mater, serving as the assistant cheer coach for OCHS.
To mark its opening, the Owen County Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony Jan. 17, with local leaders and community members gathering to officially welcome the business to Owenton.
“We’re thrilled to welcome KY Tumble as the newest member of the Owen County Chamber of Commerce,” Chamber Executive Director Jenni Duncan said. “This facility not only provides a much-needed resource for our local families but also strengthens our community by creating new opportunities for our youth. Laura’s passion and dedication are evident in every aspect of this business, and we’re excited to see the positive impact KY Tumble will have on Owen County.”
At KY Tumble, Porter combines her personal and professional experience to create a welcoming environment for children of all skill levels. Classes include Toddler Tumble for ages 3-5, which focuses on coordination and basic motor skills, as well as beginner to advanced tumbling classes for older students. The facility also offers private lessons for one-on-one instruction and clinics to help students prepare for cheer tryouts or focus on specific skills.
“Kids enrolled advance at their own pace,” Porter said. “I aim to help all of the tumblers develop strength, flexibility, balance and positive self-esteem. I want to prepare all of them to be successful in any other sport or activity they wish to pursue.”
KY Tumble is also designed to support the broader Owen County community. Porter plans to collaborate with local schools and cheer teams, providing practice space and training services. She hopes her work will strengthen local schools’ cheer programs and inspire the next generation of athletes.
"Owen County is my home," Porter, who works full-time as a targeted case manager at Addiction Recovery Care Eagle Creek, said. "I wanted to do something I love for the community I love."
